For our much-ballyhooed voyage next year around the Middle East, we had expected to begin the whole thing in Cairo and work our way around widdershinsto Istanbul. But now I hear that if our passports contain a stamp from Israel, we will be barred from Syria and perhaps some other countries too. I’ve been trying to read up on the issue and I’ve come across a whole lot of conflicting reports about whether we should simply cut Israel out altogether and take the ferry from Egypt to Aqaba in Jordan or if there’s some way to have our cake and eat it too. It seems the most informative site I’ve found is this blog post on “the dreaded Israel passport stamp” but this might be a potential show-stopper so I am still on the hunt for more information.
